The Prachuap Khiri Khan Night Market - Everything You Need to Know!
As a tourist, there are sides of Thailand that it’s hard to see. This daily night market in Prachuap Khiri Khan offers a real taste of local Thai life! Unlike the weekend market, it’s rare to even spot other tourists. The stalls’ main menus are typically all in Thai, although many of them have English versions once you sit down. If you want to experience local Thai food at Thai prices among Thai people, there’s no better place to do it.
Basic Details:
When: every night.
Where: the north side of Kong Kiat Road between Sala Cheep Road and Pitak Chart Road. To get there, just head straight east from the pier (Saran Withi Bridge) along the main road that ends at the pier. It’s about a five-minute walk from the pier to the market, which will be in an open lot on your right side.
If you’re here during the weekend, remember you can also check out the more bustling weekend night market! It takes place on the main waterfront road; head to the pier (Saran Withi Bridge) and you can’t miss it.
Prices:
Prices are incredibly reasonable, especially by Western standards. Expect to pay anywhere from 30 baht to 120 baht ($1 USD to $4 USD) for a meal-sized portion of food, with many options falling toward the lower end of the range. You’ll also find stalls selling snack-sized portions of foods like sausages or chicken skewers. For these snacks, expect to spend 10 to 30 baht, or $0.33 to $1 USD.
General Food Style:
Most of this market is occupied by stalls set up with tables and chairs so you can eat a full meal while comfortably seated. Around the edges of the market, you’ll find stalls selling smaller snack-sized items that you can eat while strolling around.
We recommend coming here for a sit-down dinner! The weekend market at the pier is a better option for snacking while eating, as it has lots more options, but this night market is ideal for sitting down and having a casual but delicious dinner outdoors.
Recommended Dishes:
Everything! Seriously, we haven’t eaten anything at this market that we haven’t loved. From noodles to soups to curries, everything has been incredibly delicious. We encourage you to pick out one of the stalls that smells best to you, take a seat, and order whatever tickles your fancy from the menu.
On our way out, we love to stop and get an order of khanom khrok (custardy coconut pancakes) to eat for dessert on our walk back to our hotel. You’ll find at least two stalls selling these, one at the north side of the market and one at the easternmost exit on the south side.
Shopping:
Unlike the weekend night market, there really isn’t any shopping to be done here. This night market in Prachuap Khiri Khan is all about food, and that’s how we like it!
Overall Geography:
Most of the stalls selling snacks are on the southern and eastern edges of the market, although a few are mixed around in other parts.
The western and northern parts of the market are occupied by stalls with tables and chairs where you can order a full meal. Don’t be intimidated by the lack of English on the stalls! So far, every stall we’ve tried has brought a menu with an English translation to our table, so it’s easier to order than you might think at first.
